A feisty monitor lizard frightened a medic when it tried to break into a clinic in Thailand.

Footage shows the 4ft reptile scrambling at the door and windows of a physiotherapy facility in Chonburi.

The determined animal slammed its tiny limbs against the smooth, transparent glass while a health practitioner backed away and took cover behind a table.

However, the lizard failed to find an opening to crawl into, leaving smudges by the entrance before knocking over an umbrella stand as it scuttled away on May 20.

A shocked staff member said: 'The lizard came to greet me. Maybe it wanted some free sessions, but on a serious note, I stayed inside to be safe.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite, which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
