China - Recent Storyline: China's cross-border e-commerce scene thriving amid policy support [Voice_over] E-commerce has become a key driver of China's foreign trade growth, fueled by a series of favorable government policies. In June of 2024, China issued guidelines to expand cross-border e-commerce exports and to improve overseas warehouse infrastructures. And in November, China's General Administration of Customs introduced additional measures including removing the registration requirements for e-commerce companies to operate an overseas warehouse. For companies like this one based in Guangzhou City, of south China's Guangdong Province, the new measures will help optimize logistics to ensure rapid delivery. [Sound_bite] Xu Yinxuan, Deputy general manager of e-commerce department, Guangdong Eagle Gifts Co.,Ltd: "We rely entirely on overseas warehouses. In countries with smaller land areas, such as Japan, the United Kingdom, and Germany, next-day delivery is typically available. For larger countries like the United States, most regions can expect delivery within two days." [Voice_over] Besides improving warehouse related protocol, measures were also introduced in certain locations in Guangzhou to streamline the processing of returned goods from overseas consumers. [Sound_bite] Ma Jifang, General manager, logistics company in Guangzhou: "A more convenient way to return goods can be chosen based on the distribution of the company's own warehouses, flights, voyages, and its own transportation costs. This is expected to improve the company's cargo turnover rate and reduce its overall costs." [Voice_over] According to customs officials, in the first 11 months of 2024, Guangzhou's cross-border e-commerce enterprises exported nearly 22 million U.S. dollars-worth of goods through overseas warehouses, marking a year-on-year increase of 84 percent.
