China: E-commerce expands market access for Chinese farmers
Storyline: E-commerce expands market access for Chinese farmers [Voice_over] The development of e-commerce in rural parts of China is fueling sales of agriculture products, with a sales model that could never have been imagined a few decades ago. According to the Ministry of Commerce, from January to June, e-commerce transaction volumes for agricultural products in China grew by more than 17 percent. One fruit grower from Aksu Prefecture, of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, says he sold three tons of peaches in a recent livestreaming session, generating 4,100 U.S. dollars in sales. [Sound_bite] Luo Yun, fruit grower: "By selling directly to customers through e-commerce platforms, my profits have increased by 30 percent. At the same time, consumers can purchase fresher and higher-quality fruits at a discounted price." [Voice_over] Another fruit live-streamer, who manages over a dozen hectares of orchards in southwest China's Sichuan Province, says he secured hundreds of orders in his first online event. [Sound_bite] Deng Shenglin, fruit grower: "Through my phone, I can sell my fruit to families across the country, something that was unimaginable with traditional sales methods." [Voice_over] According to an industry report, last year, the value of China's online retail sales of agricultural products was more than 94.5 billion U.S. dollars. This year, the market is expected to be worth 116 billion. [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
