Housewife shocked when giant monitor lizard charges into room
A housewife was shocked when a giant monitor lizard charged into her room in Thailand.
The reptile was first spotted lurking under a pickup truck while children played nearby before running into the rented property in Chonburi on January 27.
Panicked residents quickly alerted local authorities, prompting an immediate response to capture the animal.
Footage shows the monitor lizard cowering in a corner, its body, tail, and mouth exposed.
Rescuers and police officers restrained the creature's head with a metal pole and covered its eyes with a towel to calm it.
However, the reptile managed to escape behind the kitchen, eventually making its way outside through the door and into an adjacent sugar cane field.
A second video clip shows authorities pursuing the lizard before they were able to secure its mouth with tape.
Four emergency responders then transported the 6.6ft (2m), 66lbs (30kg) animal to a nearby vehicle, where it will be returned to its natural habitat.
Locals gathered around the scene, hoping to identify a 'lucky number' for an upcoming lottery draw.
Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.
The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite, which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
