A villager was stunned when his lemon tree grew massive fruits the size of a child's head.

Chit Kanphian, 58, had been taking care of the tree for years until it bore huge lumpy lemons in his yard in Phayao province, Thailand. The fruits were so large that he had to use sticks to support the lemon-laden branches.

Footage shows a boy carrying one of the lemons - which weighed an average of 4.4lbs - next to his head for comparison.

Chit said the tree was a species from Taiwan that he had bought many years ago.

He said: 'After planting it, I took care of it until it grew taller and bore fruit. To my surprise, the lemons kept growing until they were larger than a child's head. Each fruit weighs about two kilograms.

'Passers-by often mistake them for pomelos. My neighbours would come by to ask me for some lemons to use for cooking. I sell them for only 10 to 20 baht each. They are huge, but they have a fragant smell and sour taste just like regular limes.'

The Guinness World Record for heaviest lemon in the world belongs to Israeli farmer, who grew an 11lb lemon with a 29-inch circumference at his farm in Kefar Zeitim on January 8, 2003.
