Geologists visited the Kilauea volcano crater in Hawaii to collect lava samples.

Officials from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Hawaiian Volcano Observatory landed on the floor of Halema'uma'u crater on Tuesday, February 4, to collect specimens of freshly erupted material.

During the helicopter overflight, one geologist captured a sweeping panoramic video of the crater.

The footage shows lava flows surging through the southern section of the crater before revealing two active eruptive vents.

This mission, part of ongoing monitoring efforts, comes as Kilauea's summit eruption continues, keeping scientists on high alert.

Kilauea is the world's most active volcanic mass and is the central feature of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Its caldera is nearly three miles long and two miles wide, with an area of more than four square miles.
