Buddhist devotees converge for festival in India
Buddhist devotees converged for a festival in India.
Buddhist monks and worshippers from different countries gathered at the 36th Nigma Monlam Chenmo Puja at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, on February 7.
Footage shows hundreds of followers and a religious leader sitting at the front, reciting the Tibetan Buddhist scriptures during the puja.
The temple can be seen adorned with decorations, with the Bodhi tree wrapped in Torma and flowers.
The group came from Bhutan, Nepal, Ladakh, Sikkim, Himachal, and other states.
Norbu Tashi of the organizing committee said that special recitations of Tibetan Buddhist scriptures were done every day during the puja.
The event started on January 29 and ended on February 7.
On January 31, more than 150 foreign artists from six different countries, including Bollywood playback singers, performed on stage during the celebration of the international religious festival.
The festival was inaugurated by Tourism Minister Nitish Mishra and Forest and Climate Change Minister Dr. Prem Kumar, who lit the lamp.
Theravada and Mahayana monks initiated the festival and wished for its success.
Buddhism is a spiritual and philosophical tradition that originated in ancient India around 2,500 years ago. It was founded by Siddhartha Gautama, who is commonly known as the Buddha, meaning 'the awakened one.'
