This is the shocking moment a mobile phone suddenly exploded in a woman's back pocket inside a supermarket.

The victim sustained second- and third-degree burns when her Motorola Moto E32 burst into flames while she was queuing at the checkout counter in Goias, Brazil, on February 8.

CCTV footage shows the device catching fire, causing the hapless woman to run around as her husband, identified as Mateus Soares Lima, attempts to put out the flames.

The man can be seen trying to remove the smartphone, but he struggles as his wife frantically dashes out of the building.

Mateus said: 'After we extinguished the fire with the help of people outside, we rushed her to the hospital, and she is currently being treated.'

The fire incident reached Motorola, and the company stated: 'Motorola informs that it has already contacted the consumer to investigate the details of the incident and arrange for a technical analysis of the device, an essential step to identify the cause of the incident.

'The company prioritises the safety of its consumers and emphasises that all of its products are carefully designed and manufactured to the highest standards of quality, undergoing rigorous testing to ensure safe performance for the consumer,' they added.
