Tourist smashes his face after tripping on notoriously bad pavements in Thailand
A tourist smashed his face after tripping on the notoriously bad pavements in Pattaya.
The male pedestrian was walking home when he stumbled on a large hole on the sidewalk in the Thai 'Sin City', at 1 am on February 6.
He was left with bloody abrasions on his forehead, nose, and cheeks after scraping them against the rough ground.
Rescue volunteers later arrived and gave him first aid before taking him to a hospital for further treatment.
The holidaymaker said he had tripped while walking over what appeared to be a manhole filled with rubbish, rocks, and leaves.
Locals claimed the hole had caused other tourists to fall before, but it still remained uncovered. They added that several power pole anchor bolts were left protruding from the ground, posing another hazard for pedestrians.
Despite being a bustling tourist destination, Pattaya has notoriously poor footpaths. The pavements are poorly maintained with uneven surfaces, cracks, and street vendors or motorcycles blocking the way. Tourists are often forced to walk along the wider but more dangerous roads as a result.
