Mesa, United States - February 18, 2025 A Chandler police officer and an off-duty firefighter sprang into action Tuesday morning, rescuing a woman trapped inside a burning truck after a collision on U.S. 60 near Val Vista Drive. The crash unfolded just before 7 a.m. when a cement mixer rear-ended a pickup truck, igniting a fire that quickly engulfed the vehicle. Officer Brian Larison, on his way to work, saw the wreck unfold and rushed toward the flames. Helmet-camera footage shows Larison smashing the driver’s side window with his baton as bystanders tried to help. “Can you get out?” he asked the woman, trapped inside as flames spread from the truck bed to the cab. An off-duty firefighter, not with a responding crew but in the area, arrived in protective gear. Larison called out to him, “Get her out, dude.” The firefighter pulled the woman through the broken window just before the truck became fully engulfed. Larison and the firefighter carried her to safety as she pleaded for help. “Relax, we got you,” Larison reassured her. Moments later, the officer called her husband so she could speak with him before paramedics transported her. Despite a multi-vehicle crash, no other serious injuries were reported. Larison, a former Marine, reflected on the rescue: “Right place, right time. The contract says payable with life, if necessary. That’s what we do.”
