A rare meteor was recorded passing through the sky in Brazil.

The fireball was seen in the early evening of Saturday, February 22, in Taquara, approximately 70km from the capital Porto Alegre, in Rio Grande do Sul, while it was still daylight.

Stunning footage captured by the Heller and Jung Space Observatory shows the meteor racing across the horizon.

Carlos Fernando Jung, the scholar coordinating the observatory, said that the phenomenon is rare and gained attention due to its unusual magnitude.

Reports indicated that in 2024, only one meteor out of thousands was recorded during daylight, making this recent event more significant.

Meteors are created when meteoroids enter Earth's atmosphere at high speeds, causing friction that heats the meteoroid and the surrounding air. This process causes the meteoroid to melt and vaporize, creating a bright trail of light.
