A hawk became tangled in kite strings before being rescued in India.

Locals noticed the hapless bird struggling to break free from the thread wrapped around its wings in Rajasthan, India, on February 27.

This prompted concerned residents to call the forest department to retrieve the animal from a peepal tree.

Footage shows the bird falling to the ground along with a snapped tree branch.

In another clip, the rescuers can be seen removing the strings attached to its wings and even giving it water to drink.

They reportedly transported it to a nearby vet clinic for a medical check-up before releasing it back into the wild.

An onlooker said: 'We saw its wings caught in the string hanging from the tree, and it remained stuck there all day.'
