A schoolgirl survived a terrifying attack by a pack of eight dogs in India.

Navya was walking along a street when the canines viciously mauled her in Alwar, Rajasthan, on March 7.

CCTV footage shows the victim screaming in fear while being bitten. She then fell to the ground while trying to shield herself from the attack.

Nearby locals rushed to the scene upon hearing her cries. A kind woman on a scooter intervened, chasing the dogs away, while the girl's family arrived to help her.

Navya was admitted to the hospital for treatment, having sustained multiple scratches and injuries from the attack.

Hetram Yadav, a councillor for Ward No 56, said that a local teacher in the area owns a street dog that roams freely during the day and is confined at night.
