This is the terrifying moment a woman and a child were attacked by stray dogs in India.

The locals were passing by a street when three canines charged at them in Karimnagar, Telangana, on September 21.

CCTV footage shows the woman shooing the animals while carrying the toddler. However, when she tried to run, she tripped on the ground, causing the dogs to surround and bite her.

The commotion alerted the neighbourhood, prompting a man to run after the dogs to threaten them while nearby residents helped the victims into their house.

Fortunately, the victims did not sustain any serious injuries from the incident.

Stray dogs have become a major safety issue for residents, as there have been frequent reports of attacks on passersby.

After the incident, residents called for the immediate dispatch of a specialized sterilization team to prevent the dog population from increasing and to ensure public safety.

The bite of a stray dog can contain the rabies virus and can potentially be fatal to humans if not treated immediately.
