This is the shocking moment a car bumper flew from an elevated expressway like a UFO - and landed on a busy road below.

Dashcam footage shows the large vehicle part plunging from the flyover and narrowly missing a motorcycle rider and a sedan in Bangkok, Thailand, on March 4.

The object missed motorists and crashed between the motorbike and the driver, who slowed to avoid it.

No one was hurt, but it was unclear whose car the bumper came from.

Driver Khemnan Wangsuknirun, who was behind the cars that were almost hit, said: 'I was driving my SUV through the road in front of Central Eastville.

'I think the bumper came from a pickup truck off the expressway but we do not know the driver.'

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
