David Deng and his family were on their way to a funeral on Wednesday, March 5, when they came across a white pickup truck.

The pickup driver reportedly stopped in the opposite lane to secure a large board in the back of his vehicle.

Suddenly, the material was sent airborne on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in New York.

Heart-stopping dashcam footage shows the wooden board, dislodged by high winds, violently slamming into Deng's windshield.

The driver's manoeuvre visibly falters as the windscreen is badly damaged, and the dashcam appears to have fallen, capturing a brief moment of chaos.
