A reveller was arrested for allegedly hitting a police horse in Florida, USA.

Justin Riera, 22, reportedly struck the police horse named Mount Opus while a mounted officer was clearing a busy street in Ybor City, on March 9.

Footage shows the cop warning the suspect not to touch the horse, before pursuing him through the crowd when he allegedly tried to run away.

Other policemen then intercepted Justin as he was turning a corner.

He was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on a felony count for offences against police animals, and a misdemeanor count for resisting an officer without violence.

The Tampa Police Department said: 'So, let this be your reminder: intentionally striking our four-legged partners is a crime with serious consequences. While our K-9s and horses love engaging with the community, always ask their handler for permission before approaching.'
