Israel's renewed attacks, aid blockade worsen humanitarian situation in Gaza
Storyline: Israel's recent wave of attacks and the ongoing aid blockade have compounded the already dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, leaving residents in the Palestinian enclave struggling to afford food. The Israeli army conducted intense airstrikes on the early mornings of Tuesday and Wednesday across multiple locations in Gaza. The strikes broke nearly two months of ceasefire and raised fears of fully reigniting the 17-month war. The airstrikes on Tuesday killed at least 413, according to Gaza-based health authorities, while casualties from the Wednesday attacks are still unclear. The bombardments, combined with the persistent restrictions on aid deliveries, have triggered widespread shortages of food and crucial medical supplies in Gaza, forcing people to rush to stockpile essential supplies. Gazans in search of shelter after losing their homes to the conflict are barely able to provide for themselves, heavily depending on food assistance that has been suspended due to the closure of border crossings. The war has also inflicted catastrophic damage on local markets, forcing many shops to shut down and resulting in critical shortages of essential food items. Tom Fletcher, UN under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs, warned on Tuesday that the aid crisis in Gaza is worsening, as Israel resumed airstrikes across the region and continued to block vital supplies.
