Footage shows gang making off with over £100k worth of vapes
Shocking footage shows a gang breaking into a family wholesale store - making off with around £100,000 worth of vapes.
CCTV from the wholesalers in Chatham, Kent, shows up to ten masked thieves breaking in and disabling alarms - in what has been described as a 'targeted' attack on the family-run business.
The heartbroken owner - who wishes to remain anonymous - says his family has been left terrified and his wife has since struggled to sleep at night.
CCTV shows the thieves - who were said to have been armed - entering the unit, having cut through the outside fences and the wall of the store, before rushing to turn the alarm and sensors off.
A white van pulls up outside the front gates before ramming it backwards and forcing it open.
The gang are then seen packing the stolen goods into the back.
The owners of the wholesalers, who have run the business for 12 years and moved to this site six years ago, say they feel like a decade of hard work has gone to waste.
They also believe they were targeted in the robbery and have since heard about people selling their products on Chatham High Street.
"We're such an honest and hard-working family," the owner said. "
"It's left us in shock and feeling insecure. When I come and go from the unit I don't know who is watching."
"I don't feel safe. I don't feel safe at home either – we're having new cameras installed and a new security system put in."
The family, who have children, started the business in a smaller unit in 2013 and deliver goods around the county.
"It took us 12 years to build this up – working night and day," the owner added. "
"We'd go in the morning and come back at night, putting our heart and soul into this to make a living."
"We're dependent on this place and worked so hard just for it to be robbed and taken away in a few hours."
Police are currently investigating the theft which took place in the early hours of last Wednesday morning (12/03).
"We hope to start all again but now I'm so insecure. I'm watching my back, the owner added. "
"They knew where everything was - the sensors, the cameras, the alarm system, the gates."
"It was organised and we were targeted. If they can do something like this they will do it again."
The owners estimate that between £80,000 and £100,000 of items - mostly vapes - were stolen in the raid, with the business likely to suffer a heavy loss unless they're returned due to the having no insurance.
"It feels like we're starting from the beginning," they said. "
"Luckily, we've got a lot of help from the community and from our suppliers to rebuild bit by bit but it's upsetting to see and knowing it can happen again to anyone."
"One of the guys had a big knife in his hand. It's the first big gang robbery in the area. "
"We can't do anything; everything is in the police's hands. "
"100 per cent it was a targeted attack. Someone sent them - they are professional. "
"We believe our country is secure, but my family is scared now. "
"My wife doesn't sleep at night. The thieves could come to our house. "
"We are very upset. I don't have the money to buy more stock."
"It's up to the police now."
Police have been contacted for comment.
