Elderly man dies following collision with outside a primary school in Sutton Coldfield
An elderly man has died and an elderly female driver has sustained serious injuries following a one-car collision in Sutton Coldfield.
West Midlands Police closed a long stretch of road after a fatal RTC happened outside Hollyfield Primary School on Hollyfield Road.
Specialist Collision Investigators looked at a small blue car which had a blue tent next to it.
A telegraph pole was also damaged with a cable hanging down.
A parent of a child of the primarys chool said on social media: 'there was an accident outside Hollyfield Primary, but the school confirmed all the children were safe.'
West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed an elderly man, the passenger of the blue car, died despite best efforts of an off-duty nurse and ambulance crews.
Paramedics were called at 10.10am on 20 March to the collision involving one car on Hollyfield Road in Sutton Coldfield.
Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance attended the scene.
The statement continues: ‘Upon arrival we found two occupants of the car, an elderly man who was a passenger and an elderly woman who was the driver.
‘We found the man in a critical condition being cared for by an off-duty nurse. Ambulance staff quickly began administering advanced life support to him.
‘Sadly, despite their best efforts it became clear that nothing more could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.
‘The woman was assessed and had sustained potentially serious injuries. ‘She received treatment from ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital under emergency blue light conditions for further treatment.
‘No further patients required treatment.’
