An albino buffalo sparked panic as it bolted across a road to run away from stray dogs in Thailand.

The bovine was grazing at a nearby field when it was surrounded by the mutts in Nong Bua Lamphu province on March 21.

Footage shows the spooked farm animal trying to avoid the pack of canines. It then broke out into a gallop as the dogs nipped at its hooves.

Terrified residents scattered as the rampaging buffalo frantically dashed toward the pavement and fell over upon hitting a wheelbarrow. It then regained its footing and continued bounding away from the scene.

An onlooker named Nudjarin Siriyotha said: 'The incident occurred in Nong Bua Lamphu Province. The buffalo probably came to graze in the school field but the dogs started barking at it. It got scared and ran away. The buffalo owner ran after it but couldn't catch up. It fell in front of a school then stood back up to keep running away from the dogs.

'The owner later managed to catch the buffalo. No one was injured.'
