This is the shocking moment a pupil who stepped out in front of a school bus narrowly avoided being hit by an oncoming car.

Footage shows the student crossing the street, almost at the roadside, when a speeding vehicle appeared, nearly hitting the startled girl in West Virginia on March 14.

Authorities in Kanawha County said the incident involved a Lincoln sedan crossing a double yellow line to pass the halted school bus with its stop signs extended.

Officers confirmed the negligent driver pulled into a 7-Eleven moments before the incident.

The Sheriff's Office reported that he was later located and arrested. He faces multiple charges, including DUI, reckless driving, overtaking and passing a school bus, and driving with a revoked license.

The Western Regional Jail also revealed evidence of the careless driver being a habitual drug user.
