South Korea protests clash with police over president impeachment delays
Protests in South Korea clashed with police over delays in the impeachment of suspended President Yoon Suk-yeol.
Enraged demonstrators are calling for the prompt removal of the country's leader before the court decides whether his brief declaration of martial law last year renders him ineligible for office.
Footage shows officers confronting activists at Exit 3 of Gyeongbokgung Station in Seoul on March 26. An elderly man fell while clashing with the authorities.
The filmer said: 'The situation is serious.'
On March 15, another mass gathering against Yoon drew a similar crowd. Anti-impeachment rallies were also held simultaneously, calling for Yoon's return to office.
If the court impeaches Yoon, a new election will be held within 60 days. If not, he will resume his presidency.
On December 3, protests erupted outside the National Assembly in Seoul following the president's controversial declaration of martial law, which was later overturned.
Yoon, 64, is the first incumbent South Korean president to be arrested for his failed attempt to impose military rule.
