Severe floods submerged roads as the monsoon season brought heavy rains in northeast Thailand.

Drone footage shows the deluge swamping a road in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Vehicles negotiated the waterlogged highway as water levels rose to two feet following a downpour on the evening of June 9.

The storm had also uprooted trees, which fell onto parked vehicles.

Songpon Kaewpornprasert, chief of the Chumpuang District, said: 'The Chumpuang Highways Division is clearing roads and surveying dangerous areas to prevent accidents caused by deep puddles and hidden holes.

'They also removed mud, sand, and debris to ensure safer travel. If the rain subsides, conditions are expected to return to normal soon.'

Locals urged authorities to improve the drainage system, as the area is perennially plagued by floods during the rainy season.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
