Drunk tourists seen fighting outside bars in front of locals in Phuket
This is the chaotic moment drunk tourists fought outside bars right in front of shocked locals in Thailand.
Footage shows the inebriated holidaymakers in a brawl on Soi Bangla in Phuket on March 30, around 2:45 am. Locals and other foreign visitors watched as the two traded blows before security officers intervened.
Another fight nearly broke out, but other holidaymakers intervened to stop it before the individuals went their separate ways.
A local onlooker said: 'They always do things like this, making our place chaotic.'
Earlier this month, drunk tourists were also seen fighting at the same location. The pair of intoxicated foreigners punched and kicked each other while bystanders attempted to intervene. The holidaymakers refused to stop, drawing a crowd of onlookers.
The once-pristine island of Phuket has been marred by over-tourism as the Thai government implements a visa-free scheme to boost revenue following the barren pandemic years.
The island saw 800,000 foreign visitors last year alone.
However, angry locals claim the push for tourist dollars has attracted crowds of 'low-quality' visitors from Russia, India, and Australia. There are also fears that the island has become an enclave of criminal activity, with police unable to control street fights and more organised ruffians setting up rackets among local businesses.
Phuket officials said they are implementing tighter immigration controls and screening processes amid a wave of drug-related crimes and illegal activities on the island.
