Denmark: Video shows Denmark’s Middelgrunden offshore wind farm
SHOTLIST COPENHAGEN, DENMARK (APRIL 9, 2025) (ANADOLU-ACCESS ALL) 1. WIDE SHOT OF FACILITY ON COAST 2. VARIOUS OF MIDDELGRUNDEN OFFSHORE WIND FARM WITH WIND TRIBUNES 3. PEOPLE LEAVING BOAT DOCKED AT PORT COPENHAGEN, DENMARK - APRIL 9: Anadolu on Wednesday, Apr. 9, captured footage of the Middelgrunden Offshore Wind Farm, a landmark renewable energy project located 3.5 kilometers off the coast of Copenhagen in the Øresund Strait. Built in 2000 and operational since 2001, Middelgrunden was once the world’s largest offshore wind farm, featuring 20 turbines with a combined capacity of 40 megawatts (MW). Each türbine produces 2 MW of power, supplying approximately 4% of Copenhagen’s electricity demand. The wind farm generates around 89 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually, enough to power 20,000 Danish households. With a capacity factor of 25-30%, it reduces carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions by an estimated 70,000 tons per year compared to fossil fuel-based energy sources. Middelgrunden stands out for its unique ownership structure. The project is jointly owned by Copenhagen Energy, a municipal utility, and the Middelgrunden Wind Turbine Cooperative, which includes around 8,500 local investors. Positioned in shallow waters (3-6 meters deep), the wind farm is clearly visible from Copenhagen and has become an iconic part of the city’s skyline. Its curved turbine arrangement was designed to minimize visual impact while maximizing efficiency.
