Elephant makes hard work of trying to eat piece of fruit
An elephant struggled to eat a piece of fruit, squashing it with her foot and trying to scoop it up.
The three-year-old jumbo named Kham Kaew was given a pomelo and worked hard so she could enjoy its meat in Chiang Mai province, Thailand.
Footage shows Kham Kaew receiving the citrus, which was slightly smaller than a football.
Kham Kaew sniffed the snack curiously and stepped on it to pop it open.
When the thick skin was cracked, the gentle giant lifted chunks and gobbled it up on April 10.
Elephants are Thailand's national animal and an important part of its culture and history. In the past, they were used for farming, logging, and even fighting wars.
Some elephants still live in the wild, but many are in captivity, working in tourism or living in sanctuaries. Because logging was banned and tourism has changed, many elephants are now kept in sanctuaries where they are protected and cared for.
