A hapless tourist's soaked flip-flop was stuck on his leg, prompting everyone around to rush in and help him pull it off during the Thai Songkran celebration.

The foreigner was partying with the crowd as they blasted water guns at each other when he slipped, and his rubber footwear twisted awkwardly in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Footage shows the visitor lying on the ground, with his right slipper tightly clung to his ankle.

He laughed through the mishap, but locals and other travellers worked together to free his foot.

Onlooker Pitak Pinjaiyot said: 'He was enjoying festivities during Songkran, but his flip flops became wet and slippery.

'He fell and it was stuck in his ankle. He was crying for help and everybody came to help.'

The guest was seen gesturing with both palms pressed to thank the people who assisted him on April 13.

Songkran is the traditional Thai New Year festival, celebrated annually from April 13 to 15. It is one of the most important holidays in Thailand, known for its nationwide water fights where people splash water on each other to symbolise cleansing and renewal.
