Drunk British tourist, 32, arrested for 'destroying Hindu sacred monument' in Bali

A drunk British tourist was arrested for allegedly destroying a Hindu sacred monument in Indonesia.

Jack William Sinnott, 32, from Manchester, England, allegedly forgot the pin code to his villa's metal gate smart lock in the early morning hours of August 19 after a night of partying with friends in Bali.

The holidaymaker contacted the property owner but instead of waiting for her reply, Jack tried to climb over the fence to reach his room.

However, the clumsy tourist stood on a religious stone monument which crashed to the ground and shattered from the weight of the Brit.

CCTV footage shows Jack falling backwards onto a row of parked motorcycles while appearing to laugh at the mishap. He then walked off.

Jack was arrested two days later, on August 21, after the villa owner reported him to the police and he was remanded in custody during the investigation.

Badung Police Head of Public Relations Ipda I Putu Sukarma said: 'Around 4:30 am, the tourist returned to the villa intoxicated but had forgotten the entrance PIN.

'The statue was destroyed. It can no longer be used and cost the owner nine million IDR (441.16 GBP). She wants to receive compensation to buy a new statue.'

The Pelinggih are Balinese Hindu sacred monuments or altars erected often in temples and properties as ‘home' for gods. They are revered by locals and showing any kind of disrespect to them in considered extremely offensive.

Officials in Bali have been trying to crack down on misbehaving tourists - especially from the UK and Australia - following a dozens of incidents in recent years.
