A police-involved shooting near Terminal 1 of Toronto Pearson International Airport early Thursday morning led to a lockdown and major traffic disruptions, according to Peel Regional Police.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:56 AM on April 24, 2025. One man was critically injured in the shooting. Authorities have since confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

However, the chaos brought traffic to a standstill, with multiple travelers seen abandoning their vehicles and walking along the highway toward the terminal, as reported by CP24 witnesses.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has launched a probe into the officer’s conduct, which is standard protocol for police-involved incidents in the province. The region continues to face scrutiny over police actions, particularly in light of past high-profile cases — including a 2022 Toronto-area shooting spree that resulted in the death of a police officer.
