Helicopters battled a wildfire that sent thick smoke across parts of South Korea.

The massive blaze erupted on Monday, April 28, prompting officials to order the evacuation of more than 1,200 residents as strong winds fueled the flames.

Authorities said the wildfire in Daegu began around 2 pm and had scorched an estimated 50 hectares in under two hours.

Approximately 26 helicopters and 202 firefighting personnel were dispatched to the scene, and a portion of the Gyeongbu Expressway was temporarily shut down.

No casualties have been reported. An investigation is underway.
