An airy-fair couple who cuddled naked to express their love were arrested for public nudity on a Bohemian Thai island.

Michal Oskar Majewski, 27, and his girlfriend Klaudia Katarzyna Wolowska, 24, stripped off and embraced each other in full view of passing motorists on hippie haven Koh Phangan.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving a report at 4:30 pm local time on April 28. They found the pair pressing their naked bodies against each other as they blocked the road.

Footage shows the defiant couple continuing to cuddle each other despite a police officer warning them. The couple were said to have moved to sunbathe naked at Ban Kai beach before they were ordered to put on clothes and hauled to the Koh Phangan Police Station.

Local police chief Colonel Apichart Chansamret said: 'The couple said they were hugging each other naked to express their love for each other. We told them that public nudity was a crime in Thailand.'

Police said the pair had attended meditation classes in the days before the incident. They had discovered a newfound closeness and removed their clothes.

However, the tourists were fined 5,000 baht (110 GBP) for 'committing an embarrassing act in public by exposing their bodies or other obscene acts'. Their drug test results returned clean, police said.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Kiattisak Panniam of the Koh Phangan Police Station added: 'The woman admitted to the charge, so the inquiry officer fined her before releasing her.

‘However, her boyfriend became aggressive during questioning. He was subdued and sent to the Koh Phangan Hospital for a psychiatric examination.'

Officers said they have requested immigration authorities to revoke the couple's visas.

Koh Phangan is known as a 'hippie paradise' for its serene beaches, spiritual retreats, and bohemian communities drawn to its natural beauty. The island's combination of yoga schools, vegan cafes, and psychedelic Full Moon Parties has made it a popular tourist destination since the 1980s.

However, the throngs of dropouts that fill the island often lack the correct visas and work permits. Instead, they survive by illegally holding obscure meditation workshops and offering alternative therapies.
