On April 30, a routine drive through downtown Fort Lauderdale turned into a dramatic animal rescue. A driver traveling along the 300 block of East Las Olas Boulevard pulled over after hearing frantic meowing coming from their vehicle.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue’s Engine 2 responded and spent about 15 minutes thoroughly searching the car. Eventually, they found a kitten wedged inside the engine compartment. Using a gentle burst of compressed air, firefighters startled the kitten free—only for it to dash into traffic. Thankfully, it was safely caught before harm.

The kitten was transported to Abandoned Pet Rescue, where it’s now safe and awaiting a loving forever home.
