HARTFORD, Ala. — A surprise visitor made its way into Hartford this week—a three-legged alligator nicknamed "Fred"—prompting a coordinated and safe capture by local authorities.

According to the Hartford Police Department, the gator was discovered within city limits and safely relocated thanks to the efforts of Hartford City Utilities, the department’s Animal Control Officer, Geneva County Sheriff’s Deputy Lindsey, and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Trooper Jensen.

“Three-legged Fred” quickly became a social media sensation, with video of the capture shared in the department’s Facebook comments.

Officials thanked the team for their guidance and support in handling the unusual situation safely. No injuries were reported during the relocation.
