RADFORD, Va. — A Radford police officer went above and beyond the call of duty April 27, turning a routine response into a moment of lasting impact for one young resident.

While responding to a call for service, Officer Vaughan began speaking with a boy outside the home. When asked why he wasn’t riding bikes with friends, the boy explained his bicycle had been thrown away after being left outside.

The two also talked about the boy’s future. When asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, the boy quickly answered: a firefighter or a police officer.

After the call, Officer Vaughan returned with a brand-new bike, surprising the boy and making his day. The Radford City Police Department said the simple gesture reflects Vaughan’s dedication to fostering strong community ties—especially with its youngest members.
