MORAINE, Ohio — A wrong-way driver caused a six-vehicle crash with multiple minor injuries on Interstate 75 near mile post 51 on Thursday evening, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Just after 8:45 p.m. on June 5, troopers from the Dayton Post responded to a collision in the northbound lanes of I-75 in Montgomery County. The crash was sparked by a southbound 2009 GMC Sierra, driven by James Collins, 46, of Dayton, who was fleeing multiple law enforcement agencies.

Collins struck a 2009 Ford Taurus head-on, then collided with a 2014 Dodge Challenger. The chain reaction continued when a 2010 Cadillac SRX hit the already damaged Ford and then a guardrail. Two more northbound vehicles — a 2021 Toyota RAV4 and a 2014 Jeep Compass — were damaged by flying debris from the crash.

Collins and three passengers were transported with minor injuries. Three others from the other vehicles were also hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries. No injuries were reported from the final two vehicles involved.

The crash remains under investigation by the Dayton Post. The criminal investigation is being conducted by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
