MAHWAH, N.J. — A local landmark came down in seconds as the 22-story Sheraton Crossroads Hotel was demolished by controlled implosion at 7:30 a.m. on May 10.

Video captured by the Township of Mahwah shows the dramatic collapse of the former hotel, which stood for nearly four decades at the intersection of Routes 17 and 287. The implosion marks the end of an era for the structure, which once hosted weddings, conferences, and countless travelers since its opening in 1987.

The hotel permanently closed in 2023, and its demolition is part of a redevelopment plan for the area.

Officials said the implosion was executed safely and without incident, clearing the way for new development on the prominent site.
