An iconic hotel vanished in just six seconds as demolition reduced it to rubble.

Hotel Urupema, which opened in 1976, operated until July this year on Avenida Nove de Julho in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil.

Footage shows explosives detonating and the structure collapsing, sending a large curtain of dust into the air on November 16.

The charges were placed across 420 detonation points to bring down the concrete and iron structure safely.

Streets surrounding the hotel were closed, and residents in nearby buildings were asked to leave as a safety precaution.

Control room operators triggered the explosives at 10 am, causing the building to collapse and generate a thick cloud of dust.

Plastic pools filled with water had been set up inside the structure to reduce dust, while two drones sprayed water over the area during the implosion.

The site has been sold to a construction company planning to build a residential tower with a shopping gallery. The resulting 9,000 tonne debris pile is expected to be cleared over the next month.

The implosion was led by mining engineer Manoel Jorge Diniz Dias, known as Manezinho, who has conducted more than 200 implosions across Brazil.
