Passersby brave raging river to rescue driver trapped in car stuck under bridge
On May 7 in Linshui County, Guang'an City, Sichuan Province, a car accidentally plunged into a river due to careless driving. The fast-moving current quickly flipped the vehicle upside down and trapped it under a bridge arch, with water beginning to seep into the car and putting the driver’s life in serious danger.
In the critical moment, two passing men, Chen Jian and Zhang Wang, jumped into the rushing river to attempt a rescue. Because the car was wedged under the bridge, space was tight and the current was strong. The front door, pinned by water pressure, could not be opened. After unsuccessful attempts to open the front doors, they fortunately managed to open the rear door and helped the driver escape through the back.
The driver was successfully rescued, and Chen Jian and Zhang Wang carried him to the riverbank. After medical evaluation, the driver was found to be unharmed.
Local authorities have initiated the process to officially recognize and commend the two men for their courageous act.
