On the evening of May 13, Beijing's urban area was hit by severe convective weather. The meteorological department issued three simultaneous alerts: a yellow thunderstorm warning, a blue gale warning, and a yellow hail warning.

Hail was reported in several districts, including Changping, Huairou, Shunyi, Yanqing, Haidian, Shijingshan, Mentougou, Chaoyang, and Fengtai. In areas like Haidian and Shijingshan, the hailstones were particularly large, with diameters generally exceeding that of pigeon eggs (around 3–4 cm). The hailstorm lasted for about 15 minutes.

At 8:33 PM, the Beijing Meteorological Bureau stated that hailstones in some areas were large enough to potentially cause hail damage.
