Rallies were held in cities, towns, and refugee camps, with the largest gathering taking place in Ramallah, where hundreds of Palestinians assembled at al-Manara Square, carrying placards and banners demanding the right of return and an end to Israeli aggression. Representatives of the Palestinian Authority and political factions laid flowers at the tomb of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. A siren was sounded at 12:30 p.m. local time for 77 seconds in remembrance of the 1948 displacement. Palestinians mark May 15 as Nakba Day, commemorating the mass displacement that followed the establishment of Israel in 1948. The West Bank and East Jerusalem have remained under Israeli occupation since 1967. Reporting by Hisham K. K. Abu Shaqra // Writing by Mustafa Tuncer
