TRUCKS MOVING ON ROAD TOWARDS CROSSINGKAREM ABU SALEM, ISRAEL - MAY 21, 2025: Israeli right-wing extremists staged a protest near the Karem Abu Salem border crossing on Wednesday, opposing the Tel Aviv administration’s decision to allow limited humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. Responding to a social media call, a group of extremist settlers gathered at the crossing, attempting to block aid trucks scheduled to enter Gaza. The demonstrators, while cheering military vehicle shipments, sought to obstruct humanitarian deliveries. Israeli police, present in large numbers, occasionally intervened to manage the crowd. A group of Israeli human rights activists also arrived to counter the protest, leading to sporadic verbal clashes. Police stepped in to separate the opposing groups. Michael Rascass, a right-wing protester, told Anadolu he joined the demonstration to pressure authorities to secure the release of Israeli prisoners held in Gaza. All forms of pressure, including military, are necessary, he said, adding that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is under international scrutiny and their actions aim to resist that pressure. When asked about the morality of denying aid, Rascass replied, It’s not my duty to feed them. My priority is our prisoners. Sahal, a human rights activist at the scene, said he came to ensure aid reached Gaza. It’s unacceptable to deprive people of essentials like food and medicine, he said, expressing sorrow that some Israelis “ignore our own history of being denied aid.” Sahal urged right-wing protesters to embrace compassion and called on the international community to continue pressuring Israeli leaders to stop what he described as “genocide and ethnic cleansing.” Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing nearly 53,600 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
