"I address this matter to the Mayor of North Charleston, and to the Police Chief," my voice my words I hope will pierce through the humid air on such a day of torment from the heat, "I ask you: where is your integrity? Where are the core values you claim to uphold? I was left for dead after a vehicular assault, then brutally attacked, choked unconscious, and yet, no one has been held accountable. Your officers, sworn to protect, have seemingly conspired with those who seek to harm me by means of breaking the law themselves. This is not justice. This is a betrayal of the public trust. It is time for you to stand on your values, or admit that they mean nothing at all." my voice has echoed through the city and my tears has drenched my pillow on many of nights, this is a desperate plea for justice in a system that seemed to have abandoned me.
