An Australian tourist was arrested for breaking into a paramedic booth in Thailand.

Nathan James Webber, 51, was drunk when he reportedly tried to barge into the locked emergency station in Sin City Pattaya early morning on May 20.

CCTV footage shows the barefoot Aussie trying to yank the door open, shattering the glass. He then slid a window open and rummaged through an equipment box. damaging a defibrillator. He left his phone and motorcycle at the scene before walking back home.

Officers arrested Nathan on May 22, following a report from the medics using the hut. They said they had left the booth to respond to an emergency call, but returned to find it damaged.

During investigations, Nathan was also found to have overstayed in Thailand for 343 days.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Torlarp Tinamat said: 'The suspect admitted that it was true he caused damage to the booth, but it was due to a misunderstanding.

'He thought someone was inside the booth. Being intoxicated, he tried to break the door violently because he wanted help with his broken-down motorcycle.

'The rescue team found the door damaged and believed it was intentional destruction of property. There was also a communication issue. The foreigner was drunk and just wanted to sleep, so he left his motorcycle and phone with the rescue team and went home.'

The Aussie allegedly confessed he was drunk at the time and only wanted help with his motorcycle.

He said while being arrested: 'The motorcycle don't move. So I go to the rescue, I think someone there could help me. And I can hear a voice on the other side. But there was no voice. It was a radio, but I thought somebody was in there that could help me with my motorcycle.'

Police said Nathan faces charges for overstaying his visa, while the property damage charges will be processed separately, with Nathan ordered to pay for the repairs.

Former fishing village Pattaya became popular with American troops on 'rest and relaxation' breaks in the 1950s and 1960s when the U.S. military had bases in Thailand while fighting Communism in Vietnam. Rural families are said to have even dressed their sons as women to cash in on the gold rush.

The handful of bars in the coastal town quickly grew and it is now the world's biggest sex holiday destination, with round-the-clock prostitution and drugs - a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah rife with crime and debauchery.

Government chiefs have attempted to clean up the city but regular violence, depravity and claims of corruption continue to blight its reputation.
