This is the amusing moment a hedgehog used a zebra crossing to safely reach the other side.

Dashcam footage shows the spiny mammal standing at the pedestrian crossing in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Upon spotting the animal walking by, the driver slowed down and stopped on the motorway, waiting patiently as it made its way toward the opposite side of the grassland on May 21.

The car owner then resumed driving after the hedgehog had safely reached the roadside.

Hedgehogs are typically nocturnal and solitary creatures, but they occasionally venture out during early morning or evening hours, especially in urban areas where roads cut through their natural routes.

They rely heavily on scent and hearing to navigate, and their cautious pace helps them detect threats.

Authorities encourage drivers to stay alert in areas where wildlife crossings are common, especially during spring and autumn when hedgehogs are most active.
