"We're swingers on Ch4's 'Open House' - 10 times more sex happens off-camera"
A resident swinging couple on Channel 4's 'Open House' said they originally applied "after a heavy night out" - and '10 times more' sex happens off-camera."
Lily Jones, 33, and her partner, Joe Turner, 30, feature in Channel 4's 'Open House: The Great Sex Experiment'.
The show, which is currently airing, sees previously monogamous couples explore open relationships and sex with others.
Engaged Lily and Joe are part of the group of 'residents' - who are experienced in non-monogamous activities and help introduce it to newcomers on the show.
Lily, an account manager, and Joe, a tradie, began swinging two years ago and applied for the show after a night out.
But they jumped at the opportunity when producers responded and revealed it's even more steamy in real life.
Lily, from Cambridge, said: "I lost count of how many orgies there were."
"And there's so much more than what you see on the TV - what is shown for 30 seconds on TV might be three hours in real life."
"And what happens off-camera, between the residents, is 10 times that which gets aired."
Joe and Lily met four years ago on a dating app, but were monogamous for two years before experimenting.
They loved it and soon became "the village swingers" in their local area, as they are "open and proud" of it."
They applied for Open House in May 2023 - after watching the previous seasons and thinking it looked "fun"."
They were brought onto the show as residents as they had experience in non-monogamy by the time filming began in summer 2024.
Joe said: "I actually forgot we applied."
"I finished work and had five missed calls from production."
"We applied because we just wanted to have fun and found it exciting to be part of a TV programme we had always watched and enjoyed."
They spent two weeks at the retreat along with the other residents and new couples.
Off-camera, they were separated from the new couples, but the residents spent most of their time together living in the same houses.
The couple said they established their boundaries before entering.
They agreed anything was OK, apart from Joe having one-on-one time with a single other woman, or Lily alone with another man.
Joe said: "Before anything happens, between anyone, you have that conversation about boundaries."
"Whether you're in a private club, a meet, or filming content, we've never been in a situation where you don't discuss boundaries first."
Lily said: "But our boundaries have changed over time anyway, and we have since done things separately."
They said the cameras are hidden when sexual scenes occur - so as not to ruin the mood - and not all parts are aired.
Lily said: "One scene I was in, the session was about three hours long."
"You see the spicy fun bits but you only see about 30 seconds of it."
"The camera focused on me with Mark, but there wasn't one thing on the bed that wasn't happening."
"There was girl-on-girl, strap-ons, all sorts. The house has a selection of sex toys too."
"We don't know how things will be edited until it's shown on TV."
They said they're 'open and proud' about their swinging - and were unbothered by their nudity and steamy scenes being broadcast to the nation.
Both of their families knew what the deal was before filming the show - at the request of Channel 4 - and have been supportive.
Lily said: "After the first episode aired, when I saw my mum the next day I asked if she watched it, and she said she did."
"She said she was proud of how we came across and we seemed authentic. She loved it."
But they admitted that what happens on camera is just a tiny fraction of the action.
While they can't interact with the guest couples, the residents are free to do whatever they like on non-filming days.
Lily said: "I lost count of how many orgies happened off-camera."
"It's what happens when you have a bunch of horny swingers."
As Lily and Joe prepare to marry next month, they have no plans to go back to monogamy as they love being part of the non-monogamous community.
Joe said: "Sex isn't that serious - it doesn't have to be something you only have with one person for life."
Lily said: "We're both bisexual, so if we became monogamous, we'd have to shut down that whole bisexual side of ourselves."
"The sense of community and belonging, and I feel free to be who I am without being judged."
"Sometimes after doing things, we just say 'I f*cking love swinging' - and it was the same on the show."
Open House: The Great Sex Experiment is on Fridays on Channel 4 at 10pm, and available for streaming.
