Los Angeles, United States - June 01, 2025 06/01/2025 02:30 am GMT-0700 LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A Baldwin Park Police Department officer was fatally wounded in a shooting in a Baldwin Park neighborhood Saturday evening. Baldwin Park police responded to calls of a shooting incident around 7:15 p.m. in the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue. According to a press conference regarding the incident, responding officers located one unresponsive person at the scene, and at least two officers were fired upon by a suspect initially reported to be armed with a rifle. Both officers were transported to local hospitals; one by air and the other by ground ambulance. Law enforcement agencies gathered at Los Angeles General Medical Center after receiving notification of the death of one of the shot officers. A procession took place around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday as the deceased officer was transported by van to the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner's Office on Mission Road in Los Angeles. Multiple law-enforcement agencies, along with family members, joined the procession. Multiple agencies were on the scene assisting the Baldwin Park Police Department during the fatal incident earlier in the evening. A parked vehicle was struck by gunfire, although it is not yet determined whether the shots came from the officers or the suspect. A homeowner reported that he was inside his house with his family when he heard gunfire; he later came outside and noticed a broken window. Witnesses indicated that officers had been pursuing a vehicle during which shots were fired. However, at this time, the original call for service was for gunshots and a person down. Multiple other officers may have been involved in the shooting as well; however, the investigation continues. Sheriff Luna said that the alleged suspect was struck by gunfire and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
