Dozens of workers were rescued after a fishing vessel capsized near Singapore.

The Pacific Memory II and an oil tanker reportedly collided, causing the vessel to overturn approximately 27 kilometres northeast of Pedra Branca.

The watercraft was carrying 30 Indonesian crew members when the horrifying incident occurred on May 20, around 7:20 am.

Survivors said the boat was violently shaken by the impact, throwing them into the water.

Some managed to climb atop the overturned craft, while others were left floating in the open sea, clinging desperately to their life jackets.

A Liberian-registered bulk carrier, Andros Spirit, which was sailing nearby, responded quickly and successfully retrieved all individuals on board.

One of the crew members from the merchant ship, Paul Paynor Macalinao, said: 'We rescued 30 crew members from a sinking fishing vessel near Singapore. All crew are Indonesian.'

Arrangements were made for the Andros Spirit to transport the rescued crew towards Batam, where a local rescue craft was waiting to safely transfer them.
