(SOUNDBITE) (English) ACAR SAYING: “(…) 12 people going on the Madleen, we were on a humanitarian mission, trying to challenge the illegal siege over a decade old. And now they’re doing a genocide, they put the siege on top of a siege. They are using starvation as a weapon of war. Today, children are being starved. Hundreds and thousands. Our mission was to challenge that. We are a nonviolent mission. We carry no weapon at all. And Israel kidnaped us in international waters. They have no jurisdiction. And what we were, we were 100 and nautical miles away from the Palestinian territories, which is Gaza. They kidnaped us against our will, brought us in jail for almost four days. They're breaching international law while occupying Gaza. And the international community needs to stop its complicity. They need to stop sending weapons. They need to send aid instead of weapons. And Germany. I'm a German. I'm a German citizen. This country just last week sent (...) weapons. I'm doing what? My country. What my government is supposed to do. But Germany chooses to starve children. But Germany chooses to starve children. Both mothers and fathers. There's no water. It's been four months. Not one bottle of water entered Gaza. Not one piece of bread entered Gaza. Why is it that 12 people have to do what the international community was supposed to do? Why do we risk our lives? But I want to say one more thing. Our lives are not more worthy than the lives of the people in Gaza. This is this was our message to the world that we stand in solidarity. The aid that we brought was it was a drop in the ocean. But that drop what carries a lot. A big, big message to our governments, to their complicity and to the ones that kept silence for 20 months. We went there. And yes, they will say we risk our lives. But again, our lives are not more worthy than our sisters and brothers in Gaza. And the world must rise. We all have to rise together. I'm pleading to you. I'm begging you. Get up. What is happening in Gaza is not normal. For 20 months. 20 months. We’ve been seeing the children are starving. Okay? If you have a child of your own. If you have a heart, a conscience. Rise up. We can do this together. The governments don't. Don't decide for us. We showed with the Madleen. That the governments do not decide for us. We do not decide when to say no. What to say yes. We have a decision to make. We vote them into power. And when they are starving children. This is what we have to rise up and say no more. So we all have the power in us. Free Palestine.” BERLIN, GERMANY - JUNE 12: Two activists detained aboard the Gaza-bound aid vessel Madleen, Suayb Ordu and Yasemin Acar, arrived in Berlin on Thursday following their release from Israeli custody, according to Turkish diplomatic sources. The British-flagged vessel Madleen set sail on June 6 from Sicily, Italy for Gaza in an attempt to break an Israeli naval blockade on the enclave, where over 55,000 people have been killed in a deadly onslaught since October 2023. Israeli forces seized the Madleen in international waters early Monday and detained its 12-strong crew. In addition to Ordu and Acar, activists aboard the Madleen included prominent Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, Rima Hassan, Baptiste Andre, Pascal Maurieras, Yanis Mhamdi and Reva Viard from France, Thiago Avila from Brazil, Sergio Toribio from Spain, Marco van Rennes from the Netherlands and Omar Faiad, a journalist with Al Jazeera Mubasher, also from France.
