China: Chinese tech firms race to develop AI agents
Storyline: Chinese tech firms race to develop AI agents [Voice_over] In China, the race is on to develop and deploy AI agents- systems that are capable of understanding, strategizing, and independent decision-making. In April, online search giant Baidu launched Xinxiang, which it says can handle more than 200 tasks like information analysis and travel planning. Kling AI from short-form video platform Kuaishou, meanwhile, is designed to create high-quality, lifelike videos from text or images. Those in the industry say AI agents mark a significant leap beyond large language models, bringing decision-making and real-world task execution to a whole new level. [Sound_bite] Gong Zheng, engineer, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology: "Previous large language models are very good at cognition and reasoning, focusing on thinking, summarizing, and analyzing. However, they couldn't actively search for information, read documents, or call application programming interfaces. AI agents give large language models 'hands' and 'eyes,' enabling them to autonomously use various tools and complete the entire process from information gathering and analysis to decision-making and output generation." [Voice_over] With AI agents making their way into smartphones, robots, and more, experts predict that the market for these autonomous AI systems is poised for rapid growth. [Sound_bite] Huang Tiejun, professor, School of Computer Science, Beijing University: "Applications and products are roughly divided into two categories. One is a digital agent operating in computers and mobile devices, an interactive interface. The other one is more direct, which is the embodied intelligence in the past two years. It has a physical form, such as humanoid robots, wheeled robots, and autonomous vehicles. They are all AI agents." [Voice_over] According to estimates, the global AI market will be valued at roughly 320 billion U.S. dollars this year. [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
